The Department of Construction and Maintenance


It is an engineering technical oriented department that is a subsidiary of the -Assistant Secretary General for Facilities Affairs- Secretariat General- KU which is a specialized department that contributes in finding and creating the best suitable atmosphere for learning, teaching, and scientific researching. It works in an integrated department that is also specialized in designing, contract preparation, supervising on implementing the construction projects, facilities, engineering services, and landscaping. The department also monitors the construction at different university campuses like Shuwaikh, Khaldiya, Keifan, Aljabriya, Alodailiyah, Hawali, Aleshdadiya, and Fintas, while continuing on following up with operating and servicing the buildings, knowing that the Department of Construction and Maintenance is keen to maintain the university’s buildings at its best condition.

The department’s tasks:


The department has multiple tasks and functions applied one engineering system, starting with the designing section and according to the demands of the beneficiaries, the section designs the and plans for the buildings that need to be implemented or renewed, as well as preparing the required specifications. Next is the follow up and contracts section, where the contractual documents are prepared based on the rules and regulations specified in coordination with the Department of Purchasing and the Central Tenders Committee, as well as the Audit Bureau, followed by monitoring and implementing the contracts to guaranteeing the completion of the buildings under safe measures. Whereas the section of maintenance is in charge of operating the buildings after being implemented and following up on finalizing the maintenance work for the university. The department also designs, prepares, and supervises the landscaping for all the university’s campuses, where the department authorizes to complete and organize between all the sections to bring together and accomplish the best outcome.

The Department also participates in many committees formed by the Higher Administration to develop University buildings according to the latest systems and providing means of safety and security for students and faculty members.

One of the Department's tasks is assessing the condition of buildings' construction whether old buildings or buildings that need renovations and are difficult to remove because the they are connected to classrooms' schedules, where the design and implementation of construction required work to achieve safety and security of university buildings.

The objectives of the Department:


to meet the needs of the university in providing new buildings and developing existing ones, maintaining and equipping them with the latest systems , technology and quality engineering services that help in achieving the goals and ambitions of the university future plans and paying more attention to university green areas to achieve the appropriate academic environment and best scientific education.

to participate in devising an accurate construction plan and projects' visions that are implemented during a specified period through adapting the latest construction means.

to adapt methods and policies in completing the work in line with the university development in scientific and academic fields to accomplish the one goal which is achieving the advancement of KU to be among developed and successful universities, this requires exerting efforts and perseverance in implementing tasks , following-up and deliver projects in a timely manner.

to dedicate the attention to train the Kuwaiti young as to exert their experiences and skills that help them do their assigned jobs .
